DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING ORGANIZED GUEST LECTURE ON "EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN" ON 5th FEBRUARY, 2016
The Department of Civil Engineering Department organized an expert lecture on ‘Earthquake Resistant Design’ on 5th Feb, 2016 which was delivered by Dr. Vanita Aggarwal, Professor in the Civil Engineering Department of Maharishi Makandeshwar University, Mullana. This event was ensued taking a cue from the experience in past earthquakes that demonstrated lack in the basic resistance to earthquake forces to many common buildings and typical methods of construction. Dr. Vanita enlightened the listeners with the fact that in most cases this resistance can be achieved by following simple, inexpensive principles of good building construction practice
It was also discussed that adherence to these simple rules will not prevent all the damage in moderate or large earthquakes, but life threatening collapses could be prevented, and therefore damage could be limited to repairable proportions.
Some of the other vital agendas covered by the Expert included the categories of buildings, general planning and design aspects, structural framing and safety, concepts of ductility, deformability and damageability etc. Students of B.Tech 6th semester (CE) and B.Tech 8th semester (CE) participated attended the lecture that concluded with a query session by the students.
