Aniket Yadav, one of ASCE’s Top New Faces of Civil Engineering–College Edition 2017 grew up in historic Ambala Cantt. Aniket is nothing short of a champ. What seemed like small wins as a student, such as inter-school quizzes, debates, extempore, etc., soon started giving way to bigger moments for Aniket. He joined Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Sadopur Campus, Ambala and quickly became the student leader of the University. Things didn’t even take so much as a pause there. Balancing the immense pressure of heading the students’ team and the rigorous course curriculum, Aniket was seeing lifting trophies in various inter-college events as well. From participating in Civil Engineering festivals, including the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai’s annual technical festival, Aakaar ’16, to organizing MMU’s Swaroop MM’ 17. Aniket’s commitment to his growth and his institute is nothing short of impressive.
This rising star is currently a Technical Coordinator for Excelsior, a civil engineering club at Maharishi Markandeshwar University that organizes various technical, social, cultural and sports events for the Department of Civil Engineering. He has set new standards for the Excelsior club and aims to leave a strong legacy for his juniors when he graduates from the College of Engineering this year.
What further makes Aniket’s profile stellar is his contribution to a number of major engineering projects, including the Chenab Bridge Project Undertaking, known as the world’s tallest steel arch rail bridge project to date. He contributed to this prestigious project by testing and stressing DYWIDAG anchor bars. He also guided the installation of the DYWIDAG bars and rock bolts and worked on subsurface drainage for the installation of weep holes.
He has worked under harsh conditions at tunnel No. 5 of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project where the full-face method of tunneling was used. He gained a lot of knowledge about tunneling on this site and successfully conducted a seminar for his fellow students on campus. The seminar was a success and highly appreciated by students and faculty. He is also involved in a research project related to geopolymer concrete where he has developed a high-strength fly ash based geopolymer concrete without using cement. He is also working on a rice husk-based geopolymer concrete and transparent concrete.
“Making a difference and changing the world are two main reasons why I want to become a civil engineer. Since my childhood, I dreamt of becoming a civil engineer, and nothing seems better than fulfilling that dream,” explains Aniket, with a clear vision for the future.
Just when you thought this is more than you can grasp, Aniket points out that he is also a member of the “The Helping Hands Welfare Society”, which helps to provide education and support to underprivileged children, and the civil engineering organization, Survey Camp, where he leads his own team in competitions. Aniket’s deep interest in social causes motivates him to attend various social summits through which he strives to bring “The Helping Hands Welfare Society” to the forefront of Indian society.
