Guest Lecture on Salient Features and Challenges of NEP
Today we are living in 21st century, which is also considered as the a step ahead than the older times especially in the terms of technologies, Materials, ways of living, rule and regulations and one of the most important of all is the governing policies. ‘Change is the rule of nature’ this saying is seems to be realistic in each and every field and therefore the education systems also faced various changes with the period of time, from the ancient Gurukuls to the current day boarding schools and distance learning centers, things have changed with the lightning speed.National Education Policy 2020 is another feather in this cap. Every new thing has some new potentials pros and cons for different user groups, to understand this new policy and to spread awareness amongst the teaching fraternity, was the main objective of this guest lecture Organized by Architecture department, MMU, Sadopur (Ambala). Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Asst. Prof. Department of Education, Delhi University was the key note speaker. He described the whole transformation of the education policy from (10+2) system to (5+3+3+4)system. The no. denotes the years/classes in which first five years are considered as the foundation stage which consists of child care education done by the Aanganbadi people.Next 3 years are kept in the preparatory stage (class 3 to 5), then comes the middle stage 3 years (class 6 to 8) and the final stage is of 4 years (class 9 to 12).
He described the policy as more flexible in nature than the previous one, in which a student of a stream can opt for another course also of different stream which were not possible in the previous education policy. Further he added that the Higher education commission will be the key player of this policy and also replace the University Grants commission (UGC) in the coming time. Affiliation policy of the institutions will also be discouraged, which will give more freedom to them to practice the various streams in their institutions. According to him this policy is a boon for those students who left their education in middle of the years due to some reasons, and got nothing in return in terms of degree or certificates. This policy will help them to get the degrees and rewards according to the time they spent in that particular course, which also describe its flexible nature. Now the hopes are high form this policy and it can be considered as the game changer in the field of education.
