Educational Tour to Orchha, Gwalior, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri and Delhi
MM School of Architecture organized 7 days educational tour from 1st to 7th Feb for 1st year students to Madhaya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi under the supervision of Ar. Ekta Sharma covering the sites of Orchha, Gwalior, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri and Delhi to reinforce the Architectural Design of students through understanding the various principles and elements in monuments (Forts and Palaces).
The 1st day of tour commenced with visit to the monuments of Gwalior. The students started their journey by visiting the Gwalior Fort, which is a hill fort near Gwalior. It was constructed under Hindu Architecture. Some features of Mughal Architecture were also added in the fort during the Mugal Empire. Students also visited Sun temple.
City of Orchha is located at the banks of Betwa river and was founded in 1531 (the 16th century by Bundela Rajput chief, Rudra Pratap Singh). Students visited the Jahaghir Palace, Raja Ram Palace, Chatarbuj Temple and the Royal Chhatris. Students witnessed the Bundelkhand architecture in Palaces.
In Agra they studied the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Sikandra Fort. History and Architectural Features of the monuments were explained by the guides and students understood the hierarchy of planning and Building Construction techniques of Mughal Architecture.
Students were taken to the Fatehpur Sikri, The city was founded as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, serving from 1571 to 1585. Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chishti and other places in Sikri fort were studied by the students
The students explored Delhi by studying the Qutub Minar Complex also named as Victory tower. After the complex, students visited the Lotus temple, a Baháʼí House of Worship. The last destination of the day was Red Fort, Delhi. After the monuments visit, Students were taken to Chandni Chowk, Old Dehi and experienced the traditional city planning of India. On the last day of the tour, students visited Mughal Garden which opens in the month of February to March every year. The Garden is built on Char Bagh concept. The last monument of the tour was Jantar Mantar, the laboratory of astronomy built by the Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. Students studied the Sun Path and working of the instruments in the Jantar Mantar.
During that 6 days Tour, students experienced the architecture journey from 6th BC to 20th Century AD and witnessed Hindu, Bundelkhand, Mughal, Indo Islamic architectural styles.
