Lohri Celebration!!
M School of Architecture celebrated ‘Lohri’, a popular winter Punjabi folk festival with staff and students on 13th January, 2020. It was a very delightful and an exhilarating experience for everybody. The occasion was celebrated with a great feast where everybody participated enthusiastically. The celebration was to connect us with our culture, to give a meaningful boost to our lives, giving a sense of enjoyment and relaxation.
Students were told about the significance of the lohri festival, i.e., the festival commemorates the passing of the winter solstice and is a traditional welcome of longer days and sun’s journey to the northern hemisphere in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. Also, the festival is traditionally associated with the harvest of the rabi crops.
The event involved a Puja Parikrama around the bonfire and distribution of Prasad which symbolizes a prayer to Agni, the spark of life, for abundant crops and prosperity.
The program was followed by dance to the beat of the dhol and songs sung by the students and teachers to warm up the event with a Punjabi tadka.
