Workshop on ‘Design evolution with Cubes’ by Ar. Gaurav Gangwar
MM School of Architecture organized a workshop on ‘Design evolution with cubes’ by Ar. Gaurav Gangwar from Chandigarh College of Architecture on 3rd February’2017. To begin with, a brief introductory lecture was given to the students to explain the importance of three dimensional visualization. Ar. Gaurav explained the process and methodology of evolution of design from basic cube.
The students were provided cubes of different sizes and a base with grid. The students were asked to make simple modules from cubes and then use those modules repeatedly to form bigger and more meaningful compositions. Students did a brainstorming exercise and defined a purpose for their compositions. Starting from symmetry and regularity, the students played with cubes stretching as far as the reflections could take them. The workshop emphasized on the fact that there is a certain inherent relationship between cubes’ geometry and the notions of perfection and clarity of structure. The workshop concluded with submissions in the form of 3D models and their extracted plans, elevations and sections.Large number of students participated in this design evolution exercise and came up with wonderful interpretations of built form from their cube compositions.
